Contest: Useful and Cool Stored Procedures
Are you true master in Firebird SQL? Participate in Stored Procedures contest and win valuable prizes!
Participants should submit stored procedure in pure Firebid SQL and embedded functions (SDF) only which performs some common task(s) - virtually anything any useful tasks.
It can be implementations of some mathematics transformations, or transforming numeric representation of number into words (like input = 21, output = "twenty one"), or anything that demonstrates the power and flexibility of Firebird stored procedures.
We'll choose the most powerful and interesting stored procedures. There will be 3 winners, each of them will receive tool by his choice from the pool of prizes from MindTheBird sponsors.
All procedures should be submited under Creative Commons or Mozilla Public License or Apache License. Submitter must be the author of the procedure.
All procedures with short description and reference to the author will be published at www.mindthebird.com
Please submit demo SQL scripts with stored procedures' texts to sp at mindthebird.com or right here in the group. Please notice that demo SQL script should work out-of-the-box to create necessary objects and demonstrate the value of procedure.
Firebird Articles Contest
FB 2.5 features documentation contest
Write articles/documentation about any of the new Firebird 2.5 features and you can win a prize of USD 500 (1st place) or USD 200 (honourable mention prizes).
Rules:
- Article format should be Word (doc/docx), Open Office or RTF.
- It must contain minimum of 2.000 words.
- It must be clear and easy to understand, and if possible, contain practical examples of code using the feature subject of the article.
- It must be written in English (not generated by automated translation, please).
- All the submitted articles needs to be licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License (cc by).
- All articles will be published at MindTheBird site and at Scribd.com.
Deadline for articles is April 16, 2010. Contest will be judged by Firebird Core developers: Dmitry Yemanov, Vlad Khorsun and Alex Peshkoff. The authors of the best articles will get money as a prize (needs to have account in PayPal to receive the money).

Firebird Logo Contest
To support MindTheBird (global Firebird 2.5 release) campaign, FirebirdNews is running a contest for logo/artwork to celebrate Firebird's 10th anniversary! The winning artwork may be used in sites, banners, gifts, etc. all around the world.
Submissions will be accepted until 15/March, 2010. Soon afterwards, a poll will be put on-line and people will be able to vote on the best artwork. The author of the winning artwork will receive a prize of USD 500 (donated by IBSurgeon).
Artwork submissions need to be in vector format (or use good resolution - at last 300dpi) and it must contain the Firebird logo. Just to be clear, we do not want a new Firebird logo, we need an artwork using the current logo and indicating the celebration of the 10th anniversary.
The artwork should be sent in two versions:
- Full color version (with all possible details)
- Monochrome version (to be engraved, laser burned, etc).
Authors must allow their artworks to be published in any page/site related to this contest.
The winner artwork must be placed in public domain by the author, so that all the usage rights are available to anyone who wishes to use it to promote Firebird or a Firebird compatible product, including usage in non-free/commercial products and websites that may have the artwork printed/visible.
Payment will be sent by PayPal so, the winner author must have a validated account there to be able to receive the prize.
Submissions must be sent by email, to contest at firebirdnews.org (substitute "at" by @).
